The University of Bradford offers a wide range of financial help to assist you on your university journey, and invests over £4m annually in the Access Agreement and other scholarships to support students from all backgrounds. Students from Bangladesh are eligible for a 2000 GBP scholarship per year for undergraduate programs. Students from Pakistan, Nepal and India are eligible to apply for Vice Chancellors Scholarship and also other scholarship where the amount varies from 2,500 GBP to 4000 GBP per year.

This degree in Archaeology integrates traditional archaeology with the practical application of scientific methods that are applied to today’s archaeology.
It is a professionally-focused degree in archaeology with a strong fieldwork component and a focus on human osteology or the environment.

Your degree pathway in the second and final years will comprise a number of compulsory core modules that characterise this combination of archaeology and applied archaeological science. The University offer a number of clear pathways, which will provide you with a specialism in, for example, prehistoric archaeology or in cultural resource management.
The course is underpinned by the opportunity to undertake a placement and by a substantial individual research dissertation in a topic of your own choosing.

The University is committed to helping students develop and enhance employability and this is an integral part of many programmes. Specialist support is available throughout the course from Career and Employability Services including help to find part-time work while studying, placements, vacation work and graduate vacancies. Students are encouraged to access this support at an early stage and to use the extensive resources on the Careers website.

Discussing options with specialist advisers helps to clarify plans through exploring options and refining skills of job-hunting. In most of our programmes there is direct input by Career Development Advisers into the curriculum or through specially arranged workshops.

Almost half recent graduates from this University have entered archaeologically-related careers one of the highest rates in the UK.
Former students have become field archaeologists, cultural resource managers, university lecturers and even accountants.
Other career opportunities include computing, management, or teaching, and many areas where employers are looking for transferable skills and an analytical mind.
Many graduates choose to continue their education and enrol on taught Master’s or research degrees.

100% of  2017 School of Archaeological Sciences graduates from this University found employment or went on to further study within six months of graduating.
Students who have completed the placement year can apply for Associate Membership of the Institute for Archaeologists.

The University have a range of outstanding analytical facilities including-

The Biological Anthropology Research Centre, which holds the largest collection of human skeletal remains in any archaeology department in the UK, including specimens from the Neolithic to the 19th century.

Three osteology laboratories; histology and microscopy laboratories
A newly refurbished radiography suite with both traditional and digital radiography equipment.
The University is a leading centre for multi-isotope analysis of archaeological materials including bone, teeth, hair, shell and pottery ‘foodcrusts’ through the analysis of the stable isotopes of hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur.
Laboratories for archaeological geophysics; lithic microwear analysis; soils / biological processing, and environmental archaeology, Dedicated Forensic Taphonomy and Conservation laboratories,Dedicated Crime Scene House and Field Station at Oxenhope Moor Project work-rooms including the Iron Age Research Laboratory and the North Atlantic Research Laboratory. New in-house Visualisation Suite encompasses a wide range of archaeological imaging and analysis capability.

  • 1st year- British Archaeology, Introduction to Archaeological Methods, Biological Anthropology: From Human Evolution to Forensic Anthropology, Scientific Frameworks, Field Recording Skills, Themes in World Archaeology.

  • 2nd year- Archaeological Fieldwork, Interpreting the Past, Heritage Management with GIS, OptionUnderstanding Artefacts, Prehistoric Societies, Celts, Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, Celts, Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, Bioarchaeology: Humans, Plants and Animals.

  • 3rd year-Dissertation, Archaeology in Contemporary Society, Option- Advanced Archaeological Fieldwork, Current Research in Archaeological Sciences, Bones, Bodies and Burials, Landscapes, Climate and Society.


The placement year gives you the opportunity to gain real experience and professional training within your degree in order to kick-start your career. It is unique and valued throughout the archaeological world. In the sandwich year you will only pay £1,824.

A successor to the Bradford Mechanics Institute, Bradford Technical College, and the Bradford Institute of Technology, the University of Bradford became the UK’s fortieth University in 1966 and has continued to grow ever since.
