The Career Counseling Program is designed to train potential counselors, developing the necessary competencies for the 21st century. These competencies include career development theory, individual/group counseling skills, individual/group assessment, information/resources, program promotion, management, implementation, coaching, consultation, performance improvement, diverse populations, supervision, ethical/legal issues, research/evaluation, and technology. The development of these competencies needs to be provided in a process of systematic fashion. This process includes helping people learn how to provide counseling-based career assistance and its support in the process, cope with ambiguity and change, develop and maintain selfawareness, engage in lifelong learning, search for jobs effectively, and develop and maintain skills in multicultural awareness and communication. The career counseling program at Southeast Missouri State University is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
