You can become a risk manager if you enjoy analysing and making impactful decisions using specialist skills. Study the identification, assessment and reduction of threats to an organisation's success along with core business skills at degree level.
Organisations are legally, financially and morally required to manage their risk-bearing activities. Risk is an inherent part of business, and risk managers are prized for their skills by organisations of all types and in all sectors.
Accredited by CII (Chartered Insurance Institute), this is the only programme of its kind in the UK and leading companies approach the university directly when seeking to employ risk graduates.
This programme provides a breadth of contemporary knowledge of risk in business and society, including financial risk, health and safety, regulation, business continuity management, insurance and business resilience in a global context. You will explore the risk management process including the identification of organisational risk, analysis of the likely effect of those risks, design and selection of control measures and the monitoring and evaluation of these measures. A holistic approach to understanding risk allows students to enter any industry sector on graduation.
Leading companies come directly to GCU to recruit graduates from this programme. Graduates have gone on to work with Camelot, Network Rail, PricewaterhouseCoopers, GlaxoSmithKline, Scottish Power, Aviva, Lloyds of London, Balfour Beatty, Tesco Financial Services, local authorities and government organisations, Morgan Stanley, Marsh Inc, AON and the NHS.
The approach to the learning, teaching and assessment of our students is tailored to the academic needs of our students while preparing them for the job market, as well as developing their ability to operate independently as lifelong learners.
The curriculum is designed to develop our students knowledge and understanding of risk management as an academic discipline, and to enable them to reflect logically and critically on risk theory and practice. In parallel with this, the curriculum is designed to promote employability. These skills are embedded throughout the programme and a wide range of methods are used to ensure the acquisition of professional, practical and personal development skills.
