The University of South Florida, also known as USF, is an American metropolitan public research university in Tampa, Florida, United States. USF is also a member institution of the State University System of Florida. Founded in 1956, USF is the fourth-largest public university in the state of Florida, with an enrollment of 50,755 as of the 2018–2019 academic year. The USF system has three institutions: USF Tampa, USF St. Petersburg and USF Sarasota-Manatee. Each institution is separately accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The university is home to 14 colleges, offering more than 80 undergraduate majors and more than 130 graduate, specialist, and doctoral-level degree programs.
USF is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in the top tier of research universities, and is among three other universities in Florida to hold this highest level of classification. About The Program
About The University
Academic English is designed for students who do not meet the English language entry requirements for an International Year One or Graduate Pathway. Upon successful completion of Academic English, students may progress to an INTO USF Pathway program or apply directly to the University of South Florida.
Content-based instruction: prepares students for university study
Elective course topics include American culture, pronunciation and drama, business communication, academic vocabulary, service learning in the community, IELTS prep and GRE/GMAT prep
Advanced language preparation for graduate students at Levels 5 and 6
AE Extended Learning: 2 hours/week of additional instruction in academic success skills and American culture
Interest Groups provide an optional 3 hours/week of English practice outside of class in clubs about art, sports, games and conversation corners
Learning is enhanced by technology: you will use laptops, tablets and smart phones in classroom activities. Computer labs are equipped with language and testing software (IELTS, TOEFL, GRE, GMAT)
Class hours: 18-20 hours per week
Maximum class size for English language teaching: 15
Award : Academic English students may progress to any INTO Pathway program or direct admission to a university degree program after achieving the language level required and meeting all other progression requirements.
