In 1823 a small institution was founded that was to revolutionise education in Liverpool and provide opportunities for the working people of the city.

The Liverpool Mechanics Institute was founded by people of power and influence who recognised the transformative effects of education and the impact that learning and aspiration could have on individuals, communities and society. It was the first such institution to be founded in England.

This small, pioneering movement was followed by the establishment of the Liverpool Institute and School of Art and the Liverpool Nautical College, and in 1900 Irene Mabel Marsh opened the IM Marsh campus. These organisations together laid the foundations for Liverpool John Moores University, an institution that has grown and flourished and continues to provide opportunities for all.

About The University

IELTS for UKVI minimum Overall: 5.0, Minimum 5.0 in writing and Minimum 4.0 in all bands

The International Year One is an intensive, two-semester programme of academic subjects, study skills and English language training that is designed for international students. The course is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree.

Once you complete the programme and achieve the required grades, you can enter the second year of your chosen undergraduate degree at the University.

Your pathway to the second year of a business undergraduate degree

The programme includes academic modules, study skills and English language training, providing complete preparation for your undergraduate degree.
 

  • Learn about the importance of financial management

  • Gain understanding of the operational and strategic challenges facing businesses in the modern market economy

  • Strengthen your business skills, including decision-making and problem solving

  • Gain understanding of concepts and models of micro-economic and macro-economic analysis

  • Strengthen core mathematical skills that will be relevant to your chosen undergraduate degree
